Would you travel far away land to see NOTHING?
Nothing is more incredible than NOTHING?
Nothing is more real than NOTHING?
After all, we all came from NOTHING, and we all heading there.
MONGOLIA 🇲🇳- A place to see NOTHING, but it’s the most incredible NOTHING.
In the vast highland of Gobi, dirt road will take you nowhere,. There is no destination except the journey itself.
This is our story from Mongolia. We came here to experience Gobi Desert, and forever I left a part of my heart there. At high elevation, about 5,000 feet above the sea level, Gobi is the coldest desert on planet. For few nomads who live here, life is hard. But leaving Gobi was harder for us.
Nomad’s LIFE in Gobi:
I don’t know if I have words to tell the story here. Photos may walk you thru into the life of simplicity and happiness under the open sky. We spent an evening with a Nomad family in Gobi desert. One little hut, they call Ger in the middle of nowhere. Two little girls living with grandparents. Their parents moved out of the desert for better living and support family. All day long there isn’t much to do except taking care of their herd, sheep and goats, no nearby neighbors, family or friends around, no modern life, just the open sky above.
Girls were so happy to have us. They can't speak English, just playing around their animals, kissing them, running around. And this very moment, I realize... life and happiness isn’t about the size of our bank account, how many iPads or materialistic ornaments we have.Life is all about experience, how we fit into our surroundings. Life without simplicity, we end up into emptiness, desire to grasp more from others, digging the hole of misery deeper and deeper.
In Gobi, 1000s of years unchanged Nomad’s LIFE is changing fast now. Mining, technology, industrial city life will destroy the simplicity soon. So, come and visit the vastness of Mongolia before it disappears.
Our Camp and Ger in Gobi:
Here is our camp in Gobi, magnificent sunrise over the horizon of nothingness.
This was a true travel to nowhere, beauty of nothing, vast emptiness.
What we were wearing, of course fur, each made from 6 wolfs. Thinking about animal rights? Not here, Animal rights? This is the way of living for long time.
Our trip to Gobi was managed by Gobi Nomad Lodge (http://www.gobinomadlodge.com). We booked a private tour package including guide, driver, 4WD and accommodation in Gobi with attached bath, hot shower, western toilet and AC. Our guide, Saraa picked us from Ulaanbaatar Hotel and flew both ways with us to Gobi. Dorj, sitting in the middle drove us three days in Gobi. We simply loved it. We became friends with both since we left Mongolia.
Yol Valley | Gobi’s Secret:
Gobi is the coldest desert on earth. Yol Valley within Gobi remains as it’s natural secret. Parts of the valley and canyon remains frozen all year around, even in July when we arrived. We have seen it, we walked over it. Heard about Mongol Horse, they are here, unchanged since the time of Genghis Khan. Wherever you go in Mongolia, horses will follow.
Horse ride is very inexpensive here, about 6-8 USD for an hour, remember these are the Mongolian horses and they are magnificent.
Flaming Cliffs | Gobi:
Its a unique and special place. First dinosaur 🦕 eggs ever found here. We were lucky to found some fossil on the ground.
I know they were some ancient animal, our guide told us they were dinosaur. I'm not sure, but experience to find fossil was amazing. We kept a small piece to bring back home .
Ulaanbaatar & Vicinity:
Terelj National Park:
Two hour east from Ulaanbaatar, we visited Terelj National Park. Another Nomad family, their daily life that offer much compared to city life, except simplicity in vast open landscapes.
We travelled here with Odka, met her on Facebook prior to our travel. Since than we became friends, Odka also arranged our next trip Hustai National Park.
Hustai National Park:
This park is two hours west from Ulaanbaatar. 500 sq. km wild horse conservation area. We enjoyed riding horse here with park ranger. Scenery may look beautiful, but it doesn’t change unless you keep driving hours in any direction. Open land is what Mongolia has, vast landscape, endless horizon.
Genghis Khan Statute Complex:
World largest horse statute made of stainless steel, Genghis Khan on horseback pointed east towards his birthplace.
There is a large shoe made for Khan in the complex, unfortunately his feet didn’t grow this BIG. Mongolians take every pride for their beloved hero. Statue was made in 2008, 131 feet tall, about an hour east from Ulaanbaatar.
Ulaanbaatar:
At the end of our trip, we met a wonderful young lady, Moki who walked us around her city. Helped us finding taxi, took us for cashmere shopping. In Mongolia, you will find world #1 cashmere. Only 3 million people, and 65 million animals, cashmere and leather products are mind-blowing.
We came to know Moki through our Gobi Tour Guide, Saraa.
Moki was in high school at that time, dreaming to move somewhere in Europe for higher study. Her mom drove her over an hour to city so she could spend some time with foreigners, practice speaking english. Hope Moki living her dreams.
Best of Mongolia: Our Travel Videos
I have come this far, Gobi desert. Endless flat land ahead, driving thru dirt road, no destination, except the journey itself is the destination. How many places I left my heart that I never wanted it back.
It is the hardest part to see nothing.
But i have seen one. Most incredible nothing. GOBI | MONGOLIA
I fell asleep
In my dream, I have seen nothing
When I was up, realized I have been to a place
The place called most incredible nothing
Don’t wake me up from there
I am the wind, let me fly free
HAPPINESS...what is it? How it feels?
I have captured some moments of a little girl in Gobi-Mongolia.
In the absence of wealth, in the vastness of nothing, under the open sky, how LIFE could find it’s ultimate purpose, HAPPINESS! It’s here....
