There’s an old Faroese legend about a witch from Iceland who, alongside a giant, traveled to the Faroe Islands and became envious of their beauty. Determined to take them home, they tried to rope the islands together and drag them across the sea. All night they struggled, but the islands wouldn’t budge. When the sun rose, its light turned them into stone. Today, you can still see them as dramatic sea stacks on the northern coast of Eysturoy—silent witnesses to a magical tale.
The Journey Begins
This is real. This is happening. We’re heading to the Faroe Islands today, and my pulse is racing—not from stress, but from excitement. The islands are waiting for us.
From New York to Iceland, and then just a short flight farther, we’ll land in what feels like another world. The Faroe Islands are often wrapped in clouds and fog, with weather that changes in minutes. Summer never truly arrives here, but when the mist clears, the scenery reveals itself as something close to heaven on earth.
Our stay will be short, but I can’t help wondering—will I get to touch a piece of that heaven?
About the Faroe Islands
The Faroe Islands are a cluster of 18 windswept islands set in the North Atlantic between Norway and Iceland. They are self-governing but part of the Kingdom of Denmark. Much like Iceland and Greenland, the Faroese people trace their roots back to the Vikings.
One of the most fascinating facts? There is virtually no crime here. In fact, there’s no prison on the Faroe Islands at all.
What Awaits
I’ve been following Visit Faroe Islands on Instagram and every photo feels like a dream—stunning waterfalls, colorful turf-roof houses, rugged cliffs, and that ever-changing weather that keeps the islands shrouded in mystery.
Soon, I’ll have my own photographs to share. Until then, I’m holding onto the anticipation of seeing this wild, beautiful place with my own eyes.
